I wanted to try my hand at making a super simple repeatable pattern. I love how this one turned out.
Fitness Birds
Probably about a year ago now, I was playing Cards Against Humanity with some friends and one misread “flightless birds” as “fitness birds”. It was hilarious and we couldn’t stop laughing. Since then I’ve been meaning to make what I had pictured that night into an illustration and today I finally did.
Me // New Avatar
I had been using the same avatar since college. Since then, I’ve changed and my illustration style has changed so this morning I decided to make a new avatar. A lot clearer, simpler, and more modern. I’m loving it. Let me know what you think!
Sunday Sundae
Here’s a quick sundae icon I made for Valentine’s Day because, let’s be honest, ice cream is my true love.
Valentine’s Day
In my senior portfolio class, we all had to design a valentine for the rest of the class in any format we wanted. I wanted to play around with some parallax since I hadn’t ever used it before and created an online poem and gave out cards with the link in it. I recently just tweaked the typeface, but in honors of Valentine’s Day, here’s a nerdy poem for you to enjoy: itskari.com/vday.
Happy Galentine’s Day
In honor of Leslie Knope and Galentine’s Day, here’s an illustration I did super quickly. Always remember, “Ovaries before Brovaries.”
New Site // itskari.com
I’ve been working this week on giving my website a [much needed] facelift. I chose to go the simple route again and started with a free bootstrap-based template and customized it. While I didn’t change too much from the old site, the little updates I made gave my site a breath of fresh air and I’m totally digging it. Let me know what you think of the redesign in the comments below: itskari.com.
Rocketmade
Right out of college, I was hired at Rocketmade, LLC. (an app development company based in Southern Utah) as a UI/UX designer. At the time I had no clue what that actually meant, but I learned so much and found a love for UI/UX design. While I was there, I was also in charge of doing all the graphic design work so when they needed a new t-shirt, I jumped at the chance to design one. One thing that was really big with the founders of Rocketmade was the lifestyle and culture that they had created there so I wanted to capture that in these icons. I designed this as a one-color screen print and we got more than 100 printed on more than 10 different t-shirt colors. Here are a couple of them printed. This was my first time seeing a t-shirt from concept to print and I love how they turned out.
Plant Me // Seed Packets
This was one of my favorite projects. It was a time for me to be in complete creative control and make something fun and quirky. I started with the carrot packet just because it is so geometric in nature and lent itself easily to be turned into packaging and then thought about how I could create other vegetables as well. I love the way these turned out and it would be amazing to actually see something like this produced one day.
Now What Do I Do?
This was my senior project and I had so much fun coming up with all of the sage advice I would give someone in their first year of college and living on their own for the first time. The part that was the most fun though was making and stylizing the illustrations. My personal favorite is “You cannot survive on Poptarts alone,” which was discovered after a finals week was fueled only by Poptarts (page not not pictured). I’m proud to say I am 3 years clean from that fateful week and haven’t had a Poptart since.
